ABOUT

Dr. John J. Feldmeier is currently Professor and Chairman of Radiation Oncology at the Medical University of Ohio, Toledo Ohio and a member of Toledo Radiation Oncology. He is the interim Associate Director of the University’s Cancer Center. He is a Fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology. He is board certified in both Radiation Oncology and Hyperbaric Medicine and holds the distinction of being the only physician certified in both specialties. Dr. Feldmeier is the Chairman of the Research Committee of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). He is the Immediate Past Chairman of the

Society’s Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Committee .He is the former President of the Midwest Chapter of the UHMS. He is a member at large of the Board of Directors of the UHMS and a past recipient of the Society’s Paul Bert and Stover-Link Awards. He is also a past recipient of the Edgar End Award from the Gulf Coast Chapter of the UHMS. He is serving as a co-chairman this year for the annual scientific meeting of the UHMS. He is also a member at large for the International Congress on Hyperbaric Medicine. He has been recognized as one of America’s “Best Doctors” for the last two years. He has recently been recognized in a series of New York Times articles as an expert on radiation injuries. He is the author of multiple peer reviewed journal articles and several book chapters and one book. His primary research interest is the application of hyperbaric oxygen as treatment or prophylaxis for radiation injury. He is the former chairman of the USAF Hyperbaric Center at Wright Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center. He is a member of the Baromedical Research Foundation Board and the Northwest Ohio Komen for the Cure Board. He also serves as the institutional Liason to the American College of Surgeons.

                Dr. Feldmeier served as the Review Editor of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine for many years under two editors in chief. As the Hyperbaric Oxygen Committee Chairman he edited the Hyperbaric Oxygen Committee Report. In 2008, he was elected as a member at large for the International Congress on Hyperbaric Medicine. He is currently a member at large of the UHMS Board of Directors. He serves as a member of the Government Affairs Committee and recently authored the radiation injury portion of the Society’s response to the United Health Care review of their reimbursement for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

                Dr. Feldmeier completed a 13 and ½ year career in the USAF. He served initially as a weather officer but later attended medical school with a USAF scholarship. He received a fellowship certificate from the School of Aerospace Medicine where he served as an original faculty member for the USAF Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship. During his final assignment in the USAF, he served as both the Chairman of the new state of the art hyperbaric chamber at Wright Patterson AFB and the Division of Radiation Oncology.
