    LOCATION

A historic district just south of Historic Kailua Village with a coastal area frequented by manta rays

A short drive south of Historic Kailua Village, the Keauhou Resort area has emerged as one of the island of Hawaii’s great cultural destinations. The area is bordered on the north coast by beautiful Kahaluu Bay with the famous Kona coffee country of Holualoa just up the slopes of Hualalai volcano.

Keauhou is an area blessed with sunny weather and perfect waters for snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking. These idyllic conditions made it a favorite hideaway of Hawaiian royalty, and today the area boasts diligently restored heiau (temples) and a wealth of historical sites.

At night, the Keauhou area attracts manta rays that feed on microscopic plankton. To really see manta rays up close and personal, go on a snorkeling or diving excursion at night and swim with the rays. Tours depart from various locations in Kona.

Update on island volcano activity:

The activity of the Kilauea volcano has been observed and is being closely monitored by the leadership of the Pacific Chapter of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.  Our top priority is making sure the location of the Pacific Chapter meeting is a feasible and safe site for all those attending.  While we are closely monitoring the developments as they arise, the current eruption does not pose an immediate danger (please refer to the information and links provided below as well as the press release from Governor Ige).  Despite this, we have been in the process of researching alternative sites for the conference, should the eruption progress.  If the decision is made to move to an alternate site, we would begin that planning accordingly as those events transpire.  We will continue to keep the membership updated as we continue with these discussions.
