JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides direct patient care under the direction of Medical Director and according to policy and procedure. Contributes to the safe and effective operation of the wound center and hyperbaric oxygen treatment room. Provides direct patient care for patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments. Assists with the care of patients receiving wound care.
Assesses patient's health status under the direction of the MD and directs HBO activities in relationship to the patient¿s changing status. Contributes to the development and revision of individualized HBO plan of care under the direction of the MD and in collaboration with the patient, family and health care team. Implements patient's HBO plan of care using organizationally defined evidence based medicine and best practice. Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care in collaboration with the MD. Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth and accountability. Documents care in a timely manner, accurately and effectively using appropriate documentation tools. Communicates accurately, effectively and in a timely manner with members of the health care team, patient families, patients, involving them in their care, and during handoffs. Demonstrates safe care practices that support National Patient Safety Goals, Hospital Safe Care initiatives and National Regulatory standards (JCAHO, OSHA, CMS). Integrates latest technologies into practice to efficiently and effectively accomplish best patient care and daily work. Maintain annual hyperbaric medicine competencies. Performs transcutaneous oximetry independently.
Thorough knowledge of unit policies, procedures and standards of care. Thorough knowledge of procedures performed on the nursing unit with ability to ist other staff members and physicians. Willingness to maintain current knowledge and skill related to the care and support of patients normally cared for in the wound center.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of the 40 credit hour hyperbaric training course and ping the competency test which qualifies for a certification. Experience in HBO 2-3 required. Current BLS.
