Office-Based Hyperbaric Medicine (COBHM)
The UHMS Committee on Office-Based Hyperbaric Medicine Practice is dedicated to supporting physicians who practice hyperbaric medicine outside of hospital settings. Recognizing the increasing prevalence of out-of-hospital hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO2), the committee aims to enhance the safety and efficacy of these treatments through education and collaboration. By offering valuable resources and guidance, the committee seeks to ensure that HBO2 is practiced effectively and safely, while also raising awareness of its benefits. The committee is composed of diverse members from various geographic areas, reflecting the professional demographic of the UHMS, and meets regularly to review its charter and activities.

The UHMS will be presenting in front of the AMA CPT committee in September. The issue that will be discussed is the AMA RUC's request that the HCPCS G0277 practice expense code be assigned a CPT code. UHMS has engaged a CPT specialist to assist with this process and presentation. The UHMS position on this is that the CPT code, should it be created, mirror the current practice expense G0277. If the AMA CPT committee creates a new code, it will be submitted to the AMA RUC for review in 2025. Updates to follow.
