Affiliate & Associate Organizations

Because of their interest and scientific commitment to the field of undersea and hyperbaric medicine, the UHMS recognizes the following organizations as affiliates and associates:

Affiliate Organizations

European Underwater and Baromedical Society (EUBS)

The EUBS is the European scientific society dedicated to the study and promotion of diving and hyperbaric medicine, a fascinating but all too little known field of medicine.

UHMS members can become EUBS members at a reduced price - for more information, click here.

South Pacific Underwater Medicine Society (SPUMS)

The South Pacific Underwater Medicine Society (SPUMS) arose out of informal discussions between two doctors in the cluttered shed which served as the Royal Australian Navy School of Underwater Medicine. They decided to create a medical society with a focus on matters significant to recreational divers. Being Australian, they opted to be both flippant and accurate and called it the South Pacific Underwater Medicine Society. SPUMS was founded in the wardroom of HMAS Penguin on Monday, 03 March 1971.

Canadian Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Association (CUHMA)

Our organization is a new, federally registered not-for-profit Corporation in Canada. It has taken years of persistence to get to the point of having a Canada-wide diving and hyperbaric medical society. Physicians and other professionals in Canada involved in hyperbaric and diving medicine have for decades separately faced many challenges. The Great Lakes Chapter (GLC) of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society was a beacon of activity and excellence but encompassed only part of the country and in fact was registered in the USA and not in Canada. A group of hyperbaric physicians in Toronto and elsewhere in Ontario also worked together on some issues in that province. But there was little opportunity for professionals in hyperbaric and diving medicine from across Canada to work with each other.

Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Hiperbárica (SBMH)

The Brazilian Society of Hyperbaric Medicine (SBMH) is a Medical Association dedicated to bringing together physicians committed to scientific, technical and ethical excellence in the daily practice of underwater medicine and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Società Italiana di Medicina Subacquea ed Iperbarica

A non-profit organization called "Italian Society of Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine" (SIMSI) The "SIMSI" consists of the following cultural sections: Diving Medicine, Hyperbaric Medicine. The Association is non-political, non-profit, non-exercising entrepreneurial activities or participation in them, except those necessary for continuing education activities, has no trade union purposes and consists indefinitely.
