Description

SUMMARY:

Coordinates safe and effective operations for the hyperbaric chambers and related support systems, including performing patient care.  Is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chambers and related support systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

In charge of all hyperbaric equipment.

Ensures that patients are receiving appropriate, safe therapy by serving as the hyperbaric clinical specialist.

Instructs patients and family on appropriateness of hyperbaric therapy, care plan, orientation, education and observation.

Performs hyperbaric treatments, including wound care, incorporating CQI measures.

Works closely with facility management and departmental staff; organizes and provides hyperbaric related education to staff.

Organizes and implements the hyperbaric safety program.  Reviews incidents, collect information, reports relevant incidents and provides safety related training.  Makes needed recommendations for safety policies and procedures.

Maintains all facility related compliance standards for various regulatory agencies, such as NFPA 99.  Supports clinical hyperbaric facility accreditations and fosters positive relationships with external entities.

Responsible for the protection, maintenance, inspection and appropriate documentation of the hyperbaric chamber, related systems and ancillary components.

Provides techniques for the principles of modern, moist, interactive wound care and application of advanced therapeutic modalities.

Monitors and documents patient response to therapies performed by the Hyperbaric Unit.

Actively markets and publicizes the Hyperbaric Unit.

Ensures that protocols and care plans are being followed, makes recommendations to management.

Ensures that equipment is up to date and meets standards of care.  Performs all quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains related records.

Evaluates equipment/supplies used in chamber and ensures that they meet all safety requirements; restricts or removes any potentially hazardous supplies or equipments. 

Conducts quarterly fire safety drills which are to improve staff response to emergency situations.

Meets monthly with the Medical Director to ensure compliance with safety standards and that reimbursement requirements are met.  Gives input on departmental policy and procedure

Works closely with Program Director and DCS Regional Director of Safety to coordinate and approve all hyperbaric chamber upgrades, modification and repairs to the hyperbaric system to ensure that all maintenance activities are done in accordance with safety standards.

Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.

Performs related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  High School diploma or GED 

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of related experience, preferably in an acute care setting.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: Current Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.  Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS preferred.  Attends or provides verification of attendance to, an Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course as approved by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of hyperbaric clinical processes, procedures and regulations.

  • Knowledge of federal, state and hospital

  • Skill in code response and resuscitation and assisting with ventilation and advanced life support monitoring for patients.

  • Skill in administering care and monitoring patients as prescribed by a Physician, and in compliance with respiratory care procedures and policies.

  • Skill in the use of computer applications and programs including Microsoft Office Products.

  • Ability to train others in the proper patient care and bariatric procedures.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to prepare and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to develop and present information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from employees, patients and/or their representatives, and the general public.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
