ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Performs hyperbaric chamber operator duties.
  • Prepares, educates and orients patients about the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.
  • Administers the hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Provider to the patient.
  • Monitors and controls the performance of the hyperbaric chamber.
  • Monitors the patient(s)’ responses during the session making proper adjustments to ensure patient safety.
  • Makes appropriate data entries for daily hyperbaric treatments and wound care clinic visits and keeps complete and accurate patient records.
  • Operates and maintains the hyperbaric chamber(s) and other hyperbaric support oxygen systems as required.
  • Participates in the safety program, such as conducting safety drills.
  • Responsible for all the hyperbaric equipment/supply and ensures safe and effective operation and maintenance for the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related systems and ancillary components.
  • Evaluates the equipment and supply used in the chamber(s) to ensure they meet all safety requirements before the patient is permitted inside the chamber(s).
  • Restricts or removes potentially hazardous supply or equipment items.
  • Collaborates with Program Director to coordinate and approval all hyperbaric chamber upgrades, modifications and repairs to the hyperbaric system and ensures compliance with appropriate safety standards.
  • Works closely with facility management personnel and department medical personnel to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. Works closely with Medical, Program and Nursing Senior Management to develop and annually revise department policies and procedures, as well as operation and maintenance documents.
  • Leads the hyperbaric safety program activities and initiatives.
  • Ensure appropriate patient care documentation.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with wound center and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Maintain familiarity with regulatory standards.
  • Report quality of care issues to clinical manager.
  • Ensure availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Communicate with all team members regarding therapeutic interventions.

Monday through Friday. Variable hours.

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CF-IT) or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist certification preferred.
  • Current BLS required. 
  • Pre or post hire completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety Course (course completion must be within the past 5 years from the hire date).
  • Pre or post hire completion of an approved hyperbaric Medicine Introductory course (from Undersee & Hyperbaric Medical Society, National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, Department of Defense, or American College of Hyperbaric Medicine).

Current healthcare professional certification or license as applicable in state of practice:

  • Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
  • Certified Hyperbaric Specialist.
  • Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant.
  • Certified Hyperbaric Technologist.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or Licensed Nursing Assistant.
  • Certified Hyperbaric Wound Specialist.
  • Completion of Hyperbaric training from US Department of Defense (DOD).

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to sit in a stationary position for extended periods of time (4 hours or more)
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard.
  • Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines.
  • Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing.
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition.
  • Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
